Mariah Henry | The Farmer

I have found myself in many fields across many seas. My love for agriculture began as a child in community gardens and was nourished through my curiosity and stewardship of  the environment and food systems in high school. I began college as a pre-dental biology major and left with an agriculture degree with a concentration in Agronomy. I am a proud graduate of Florida A&M University and forever grateful for the opportunity to explore agriculture globally.

Over the last decade I have worked in corporate and nonprofit sectors of agriculture, constantly searching for a place to share my passion. After the pandemic I was seeking an opportunity to slow down and learn everything about farming. In 2022, I moved to Chester, SC where I worked and lived on an organic farm as a sustainable vegetable production apprentice. By the following Spring I was managing over 20 acres of urban land in Charlotte,  accepted a residency with RangeWater Real Estate to build a community garden, and facilitate a culinary program for residence. Over the last two years I built and managed a 6.7 acre urban farm in East Charlotte, consult, design and build various food systems within the city.

In 2025 I started a business, Honey & Maple and  I am building out my homestead in 

West Charlotte with a few chickens, a couple of bee hives, and plenty of vegetables and flowers!

In 2024, The Urban Haven was nominated for Best in the Nest-  Best Culinary Program by the Queen City Nerve. The Urban Haven is a  program, which intersects urban gardening with food and living essentials. The program host culinary and gardening workshops with elevated brunches, dinners, and tailored experiences throughout the year. This program is offered to communities who are looking to offer residents an authentic experience that supports local agriculture and artistry. Follow Mariah for private events and exclusive
